Lighter Shade of Brown

LSOB was formed in 1990 by One Dope Mexican (Robert Gutierrez) and Don’t Try To Xerox (Bobby Ramirez). They recorded demos and landed a record deal soon after with a small independent label, Quality/Pump records. Their debut album, 1990’s Brown and Proud, brought the group Top 40 single in the U.S. with On A Sunday Afternoon, peaking at #39 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song also went to #1 for 2 weeks in New Zealand. Other hit records include, Latin Activity, Homies & Hey DJ.

The duo provided songs for movies such as Mi Vida Loca, Bulletproof and I Like It Like That following the release of their second LP, 1992’s Hip Hop Locos. Mercury Records signed the group and released their third disc, Layin’ in the Cut, in 1994. The record peaked at #184 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.

Their self-titled fourth album in 1997, featured guest appearances from Rappin’ 4-Tay and Dwayne Wiggins of Tony! Toni! Toné!. Singles off this album were Do You Wanna Ride & Whatever You Want.

In 1999, their 2nd and final album off of Greenside Records entitled If You Could See Inside Me was released featuring Kid Frost, N2Deep and Baby Bash also containing the single Sunny Day.
